Canon Live | World's Greatest Car Show, from behind the lens with Rod Fountain
For 17 years, Rod photographed behind the scenes on the world's most popular car show, BBC Top Gear, and also for various car manufacturers. His images are used around the world in the marketing, press and promotion of the BBC Top Gear brand. His natural working habitat varies from runways to mountains, country lanes to perilous passes and industrial estates to abandoned nuclear submarine bases in Ukraine.
When not travelling, Rod covers corporate events for several event management companies and has been a photographer for Unilever UK for the past two decades. When he's not too busy with his two young sons, he enjoys photographing wildlife in his local parks and has recently developed an unhealthy appreciation for Astrophotography!
Rod will use this session to give some pointers on what it's like working behind the scenes as a location photographer on TV and film shoots, giving the viewer a real insight into working on extended special shoots for Top Gear. He will explain how he came to be working in the industry and how to keep a low profile, use lighting to your advantage, choosing your moments to shoot the ‘talent’ and how to cope with the challenges of working embedded with a camera crew for weeks at a time far from home, often under challenging conditions.
